Poetry workshop with Boris Dralyuk and a New Year Sprint 🎊
Plus, our own Giedre Pavalkyte has opened a bookshop in Madrid 📖
Happy Holidays, dear Write Salon community 🎄🪅
The New Year is around the corner and we are excited to share with you our offerings for January ✨
But first, did you know that The Write Salon’s own Giedre Pavalkyte has opened a bookshop with her partner in the heart of Madrid’s Lavapiés neighborhood? A bilingual bookshop, LibrerÃa Parent(h)esis opened its doors on November 12th with a lively opening event.
While the bookshop doesn’t yet have an online catalog, those of you based in Spain can inquire about available titles and arrange for shipping within the country.
We hope you’ll visit Parent(h)esis if you’re in Madrid! And we can’t wait to invite The Write Salon community to bookshop events happening in the New Year.
Now, we are happy to share two The Write Salon events happening in January.
New! Poetry workshop with acclaimed poet, translator and editor Boris Dralyuk
January 25th, 6 to 8 PM CET
Boris Dralyuk comes to The Write Salon on Saturday, January 25th for a two-hour online workshop titled Formal Freedom: Getting Creative with Meter and Rhyme. Boris has published in The New Yorker, the New York Review of Books, and elsewhere and previously been at the helm of the Los Angeles Review of Books. In this two-hour workshop, Boris will lead us in an exploration of the art and craft of formal poetry. In any creative process, having some constraints to bound the endless possibilities can make the process more productive and generative and in this workshop, Boris will use meter and rhyme as creative constraints to spark possibilities and generate new work. It’s been a while since we ran a poetry workshop at The Write Salon, and we’re especially excited about this one. Hope you can join us!
Back by popular demand! Start your Daily Writing Habit: A 15-Day Sprint
January 18th to February 1st
We introduced this class in 2024 and it’s proven to be so popular that we’ve already run it three times. Led by The Write Salon’s Willow Mata, the Daily Sprint creates a safe and supportive structure for generating new writing, sharing and getting feedback daily, and developing a daily writing practice. Learning to write well is a process of reading a lot, writing a lot, and sticking to the practice of showing up to the page again and again. For writers, January is a time of recommitting to projects, setting publishing goals, or perhaps beginning again after a long time away from the page. Join us to (re)connect with your writing goals in community and feel the motivation of having a consistent, encouraging reader for your work.
All genres welcome. No live sessions – everything happens via email and through shared Google Docs.
Have a good holiday season filled with books, treats and love 🎊📖💛 We look forward to seeing you at a Write Salon event—or at Parent(h)esis!— in the New Year!
